Object description :

"Italy XVIIth Cty, Suite Of 3 Large Baroque Wooden Carved And Silvered Reliquaries Busts"
Exceptional and stunning set of 3 large Italian baroque wooden carved and silvered reliquary busts.

The 3 busts are pierced in their facade in the center by an oval window, and each open by a rear door on the back; They contained various and valuable relics and religious objects. The interior of the niches is entirely painted in original bright red, contrasting perfectly with the silvering of the exterior of the busts.

The bodies, on pedestal-shaped decorated with winged angel heads, are all 3 different and respond themselves perfectly, with the 2 outer saints looking at the one in the center which must have been slightly in higher position. Such a preserved and complete suite, the busts having never been separated, is truly exceptional and extremely rare. Silvering stay much less common than gilding on wood, but perhaps also more fragile.

Very good general condition, regard their size and their age; some old restorations of silvering, especially on the lower parts
