"Pair Of Vases With Animals, Kutani, Shusei - Seizan, Japan, Meiji Era (1868-1912)"
A pair of beautiful Japanese vases. Each shows animals - a ferocious dog-lion (shishi - komainu), a pair of proud peacocks, an eagle perched on a pine branch, and a pair of hares. All of these creatures have rich symbolism in Japan. The vases are further decorated with various masks and ornaments, which are intricately painted. Porcelain enamelled, painted and gilded by hand.
