Painter, illustrator and decorator, Lucien Eller was the painter of nightlife, bars, nightclubs, jazz clubs. He depicts the atmosphere of the night in a very expressive style, in the tradition of the painters Van Dongen and Rouault. Winner of the Société des Beaux-Arts de Marseille where he was born, he came to Paris after the 1st World War where he witnessed the Parisian nights of the Roaring Twenties. He exhibited in Paris at the Devambez gallery and at the Salons des Indépendants. Died prematurely, his work remained in the shade. In 1956, a sale organized in Nice of more than 70 of his works brought him back to light with an audience of knowledgeable dealers and collectors.
