Charming Pill Box Or Snuff Box In Pressed Composition Imitating Basketry. Deb XIX

Snuff box in composition with a trompe l'oeil decoration.

The box is round, in composition. Probably horn powder mixed with natural or other resins.
The lid has a pattern forming squares in imitation of basketry. The background is decorated with a pattern of circular wavelets forming scales with, in the center, a radiating pattern.
The edge of this box is concave for a good grip. This concave edge is typical of 19th century box production.

There is a trace of an old label in the lid.

Charming little box from the first half of the 19th century.
