"18th Century English Miniature"
Late 18th century English miniature painted in gouache on ivory depicting a gentleman represented in a three-quarter bust on a cloudy background. His eyes are large and lively, the nose a little long and pointed, the lips thin; his graying hair sparse on the top of his skull falls on either side of his face to mid-cheeks. His jacket is dark and there is a badge on one lapel. His white shirt has a draped collar rising to below the chin and is embellished with an important pussy bow. The man has presence and a proud appearance; we guess that he occupies a position of responsibility and that he knows how to give orders. On the reverse a half erased inscription allows us to decipher the word "London" and a date: "1797". This interesting portrait is in good condition; it is in its frame circled with 9 K gold fitted with a suspension ring also in gold. 7.5 X 6cm 8.8x 6cm with the ring.
