""la Baigneuse" After Allegrain"
Bronze statuette produced at the end of the 19th century by the Barbedienne foundry (signature and stamps) after the marble sculpture by Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain "Vénus au bain" exhibited at the Louvre Museum. Thanks to the know-how of this great French house privileging the quality of the chasing, faithful in the presence of the details (hairstyle), this statuette reproduces with dignity the sensuality and the refinement expressed by the author. Original nuanced brown patina, very good general condition. Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain (1710/1795) was born in Paris, living in the Marais district, this great sculptor of the 18th century honors important commissions including this Venus in the bath made in 1767 and which was offered in 1772 by Louis XV to Madame the Comtesse du Barry. In 1759 he was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, where he became rector and dean.
