"Chest Of Drawers In Precious Wood, Stamped P. Migeon, Louis XV Period - 1st Part 18th Century"
Elegant Louis XV chest of drawers in kingwood, stamped Migeon. Pierre Migeon, famous master cabinetmaker of the 18th century, worked for the Duke of Orléans, the Marquise de Pompadour and received orders from the Garde-Meuble of King Louis XV. His quality creations are appreciated by a renowned clientele. His works are notably exhibited at the Beauvais museum, at the Petit Palais in Paris and at Fontainebleau. This chest of drawers with movement on the front and on the sides has two independent drawers in the upper part, a secret drawer and a large drawer in the lower part. The fronts of these drawers have a kingwood marquetry worked in quatrefoils, framed by more or less wide bands. These are positioned in a different direction, horizontal, vertical or diagonal. This geometric marquetry brings the illusion of a moving facade, mixing the deep and shimmering veining of kingwood. All the ornamentation adorning this exceptional piece of furniture is in gilded bronze. Installed later, the entrances and handles are delicately chiselled and formed of foliage. On each side, the uprights are lined with falls at the top and end with a hoof foot. A low, cut-out crosspiece is decorated with a charming bronze trim. Moreover, this chest of drawers is topped with a thick Brèche d'Alep marble from the Bouches-du-Rhône. This is a movement composed of a bec-de-corbin and a groove.
