Gothic Sculpture from the 15th century, Carved Oak Mourning Virgin

Oak, height 34 cm, width 13 cm (height including later base 41 cm)

Late 15th century, circa 1480-1500, probably made in the Netherlands

Superb sculpture of the mourning Virgin Mary, probably from a group of the Crucifixion.

Very nice detail of the face with beautiful passionate expression, and fantastic Gothic folds of the drapery. Beautiful patina.
This sculpture is in good condition considering the period, the wood bears the scars of time.
