"Lion By Prosper Lecourtier"
Prosper Lecourtier was a pupil of Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) and he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1875 until his death in 1925. Frémiet seems to have bequeathed his passion for the animal world to his pupil. The latter excelled in the production of animals in a naturalistic style2. Lecourtier meanwhile expressed his talent through sculptures of more modest dimensions. We find in his sculptures of hunting scenes the influence of his master, however Lecourtier stands out from his model by the integration of movement as shown by his sculptures of hunting dogs or deer and deer. He has a real sense of naturalism in the anatomical modeling and the expressions of the animals represented. He won several medals at the Salon and at universal exhibitions.
