"Pottery Flute, Tribal Art, Oceanic Art, Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Instrument"
Kwoma pottery involved in a fertility cult linked to the yam harvest. The shape of this pottery is reminiscent of the yam itself, a sacred tuber. Fully sculpted terracotta whose tribal designs are enhanced with natural pigments or paints. Probably used as a flute. Sound obtained by blowing as in the neck of a bottle. Collected in the village of Mino in Papua New Guinea. Displayed and sold with a metal base.
