Gardet" Siot Decauville cast iron - Foundry Paris Circa 1920 Dimensions Height: 28 cm Length: 44 cm Biography: Son of sculptor and brother of sculptor Joseph-Antoine Gardet (1861-1891), Georges Gardet entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he became a pupil of Aimé Millet and Emmanuel Frémiet. He quickly revealed himself to be gifted with great skill in the production of animal subjects which would remain his favorite themes. Georges Gardet participated in the Paris Salon from the age of twenty and won his first prize in 1891 with "Drame au désert". He receives many orders from wealthy clients for "portraits" of their pets or to decorate their garden and their home. He produces plasters often translated into bronze as well as marbles. Some of his works will be the subject of a biscuit edition at the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. Georges Gardet became an officer of the Legion of Honor in 1900. Member of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Society of French Artists, he is considered one of the greatest artists of the French school of animal sculptors.
