very large painting of the battle of waterloo signed by jean charles langlois 1789 1870 Jean-Charles LANGLOIS known as colonel LANGLOIS (Beaumont-en-Auge 1789 - Paris 1870) Colonel Langlois, a soldier who had taken part in the Napoleonic campaigns, specialized on military subjects in panorama. His reputation as a history painter offered him cover to give information on the state of the Russian army. He arrived in Saint Petersburg as a military attaché at the embassy of Marshal Maison in November 1833. He himself went to Smolensk in July 1834. The work of this painter was rehabilitated by several exhibitions in 2005 (Boulogne -Billancourt, Marmottan Library, Caen, Museum of Fine Arts).
