Raymond Ruys (1886-1956) was a goldsmith from Antwerp. At the 1930 Universal Exhibition in Antwerp, Raymond Ruys won a Grand Prix with his entry, a set of 48 unique silver pieces with a hammered surface, inspired by non-European cultures, among others. These objects, to which this vase can also be counted, not only excelled in originality, but also in craftsmanship. The vase is marked on the bottom with the content the mark 950 in a rectangle and the dealer's mark R.RUYS also in a rectangle. The R.RUYS signature is on the neck of the vase. The vase has been in the possession of the Sterckshof Silver Museum since 2005 (inv. no. S2005/122).
