"French Commode, Louis XV Style"
Typical of Louis XV style furniture, this violet wood accent furniture is curved in shape (with a rounded façade and sides). The cabinet rests on four flared legs, which end in leafy feet in gilded bronze (gilded bronze). These feet are connected by a shaped apron whose front is mounted with a leafy pattern in gilded bronze. The body of the cabinet is mounted with beautiful panels of Martin varnish (imitation lacquer). The front panel depicts a young shepherdess and a couple courting in an Italian landscape. This serves as a door that opens to reveal a compartment with two shelves. The Martin varnished side panels extend the view of this idealized Claudian landscape. The frieze of the cabinet has a central drawer that is decorated with a varnished Martin image of two cherubs in flight, holding between them a garland of flowers. Panels of Vernis Martin, representing collections of musical instruments, are mounted on the sides of the frieze. The Martin varnish panels on the cabinet are indistinctly signed. They are contained in reed and goldmolu leaf frames, and the door and drawer feature keyholes and ormolu keys. Ormolu sculptures in espagnolette (female bust) with leafy paths are mounted on the upper corners of the wardrobe façade. The flat top of the cabinet is covered with variegated marble of white and red.
