Object description :

"Exceptional Port Wardrobe, In Mahogany From Cuba, Nantes Region - 1776"
Remarkable Port Wardrobe in Cuban Mahogany, of imposing dimensions, topped with a heart-shaped Crossbow Cornice. It opens with two large doors cut into a brace at the top. They consist of recessed panels with contours underlined by wavy moldings. Each of these doors is held by three large brass plugs and has a long keyhole. The right leaf is fitted with an original three-point lock. The piece of furniture is supplied with its period key. It should be noted that each of the panels benefits from a Cuban Mahogany Veneer with pretty patterns, symmetrical on a cleverly concealed vertical axis. The interior is lined with four 59 cm deep shelves placed on fixed cleats and two drawers of unequal width. The lower crosspiece of this impressive cupboard is generously scalloped and features decorations of shell, foliage and windings. We will generally appreciate the many sculptures with various motifs present on the whole piece of furniture: under the Cornice, at the top of the doors, between them... Despite their substantial height, the sides are made up of a single panel, also in retreat. The set rests on two snail legs at the front and two more sober legs at the back. The shelves, interior and back of this Nantaise cabinet are in Oak. It should be noted that this cabinet is listed in the book 'Le Décor Nantais de l'Armateur au XVIIIe siècle', by Françoise Maillet. In addition to its 250 years of history, the strengths and uniqueness of this Regional piece of furniture reside essentially in the shape of its Cornice and the omnipresence of its sculptures. ******** Period: 18th century, 1776 Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
