Superb small ceramic dish or plate with Hispano Moorish luster from the end of the 16th century Note the shape of the plate with central projection and slight gadroons, which perfectly reproduces the shapes used at that time for silverware (umbilicus dish receiving the heel of an ewer). The technique and the copper-effect floral decoration are directly drawn from oriental ceramics, examples of which were disseminated during the Arab invasions of southern Spain.
Late 16h century Hispano-Moorish ceramic, with metallic / copper luster, featuring a rich ornamental vegetal decoration.
These ceramics, often attributed to Manises factories alone, are gradually being reclassified more like ceramic workshops production from Valence area.
Condition: a large circular fel (see photos); no restoration.
The suspension hole is original, because enamelled inside
The main interest of this piece is, in my mind, the exceptional quality of iridescent enemail of the dish (and not used as often!), both on its main face and on its reverse, once again referring to prestigious and luxurious silverware models.
Sizes; 29cm diameter
