Stunning and rare large ceramic dish called CRESPINA, from FAENZA (North East of Italy), late 16th century or early 17th century, bearing in its center the coat of arms of a noble family (?) from the city of Turin.
These molded ceramics (the name "crespina" of round earthenware cups comes from the word "encrespato", so not smooth.
On the back of the dish, we can clearly see the platery work and its relief decorations, -reference to the repulsed work of brassware and goldsmithing; these pieces with a plain white background were produced in Faenza late 16th or early 17th centuries.
This large plate (43cm diameter) has deep godronateshape and chantourné outline; the white background is characteristic of the Faenza ceramics of this period, and highlights the central in COMPENDARIO design (a range of restricted colors, in blue, yellow and ocher shades) of a large bipartite central nobility coat of arms, the left half of which takes up the Turin city coat of arms.
The right part is itself separated in height with the upper register 3 gold coins and lower a large vertical key (?)
Thank you in advance for any help you could give me in identifying this Italian coat of arms !
The Turin city coat of arms ("D'azzurro al bullo furioso d'oro cornato d'argento") consists of a blue Swiss shield on which is superimposed a furious standing / rampant gold bull, with silver horns; Everything is stamped by a crown the count to nine pearls.
Very good condition, rare considering the age of the dish, its size, its complex shape of its extreme lightness; to report only a few enamel swings on the tips around the dish, visible in the photos; No fel and no restoration
Dimensions: 43cm diameter and 4cm thickness
