The work we are selling is referenced in the catalogue raisonne of Jules DUPRÉ by Marie-Madeleine AUBRUN under number 29 (see photos) and was exhibited at the "Couper Gallery" in London in 1962-1963 as part of the exhibition "From Gericault to Delacroix"
The artwork is particularly interesting because DUPRE's early works are rare and difficult to find on the art market, unlike his later "commercial" production.
We no longer need to introduce Jules DUPRÉ, major painter of the Barbizon school alongside Théodore ROUSSEAU, COROT and Charles-François DAUBIGNY, present in many museums and sought after by collectors and galleries around the world !
He is rightly considered one of the greatest French landscape painters of the 19th century.
This lovely work is also very well framed, which gives it a museum look! An opportunity not to be missed !!
TAKE CARE : The painters of the Barbizon school were extremely copied, I estimate at 99% the number of fake COROT, 90% fake DAUBIGNY, ROUSSEAU and Jules DUPRÉ!! Of course, these many fakes are sold everywhere, whether on internet or in auction houses, at attractive prices...
Here you have the assurance to buy an original artwork, referenced in the catalogue raisonne and sold with our invoice, the asking price is therefore fully justified !
Oil on canvas 65 x 54 cms (with gilt frame mid 19th century, some restorations, not very visible, approximately 77 x 66 cms - the rabbets of the frame have been hollowed out by an additional 1cm to allow the insertion of the painting)
Unsigned
Presence of several sales or exhibition labels on the reverse
