The sculpture represents a famous german Ballet dancer Lisa Spalinger, in a role of Sybille in a ballet Raymonda, created by choreographer Maurice Petipa and russian composer Ilya Glazunov. The dancer was born in Berlin. Her mother was German and her father was Swiss.
After dancing in operettas in Hamburg, she joined what is now Deutsche Oper Berlin when she was 18 and became the prima ballerina.
The Nazis did not allow artists to leave Germany, but Mrs. Spalinger Boehm eventually used her Swiss citizenship to flee the country by train in 1945. In Switzerland, she danced with a ballet company in Bern.
