"Small Secretary - Console In Mahogany From Cuba, Directoire Style - Mid-19th Century"
Small secretary in solid and veneered Cuban mahogany, in the Directoire style. Although all in one piece, we will choose to describe it in two stages. The upper part forming a Secretary opens with a flap trimmed on the front with a rectangular mirror. He discovers six small drawers with chiseled pull buttons. This space also consists of a niche, embellished on the front by a panel cut into arches supported by columns. This Decor is decorated with Bronzes: spandrels at its corners, Lion's head in the middle. The work area is covered with current Green leather, embellished with a central Vignette and, on the edge, two friezes, one Golden, the other, more discreet, on a hard background. The lower part, wider than the first, resembles a Console, opening in the belt by a drawer mounted in Dovetails. It rests on four straight uprights, ending in four larger feet, and connected to each other by a spacer with a concave facade. The top of this piece of furniture is Granite Marble, overhanging a top with a bevelled edge. The flap and the drawer are equipped with carved Bronze keyholes and each has its own key. We will appreciate the presence of many Mascarons, wrapped crowns and other bronze scraps on the uprights and feet of this pretty piece of furniture, with a structure that is both singular and functional. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
