"Mirror With Cupids - France, Louis XIV Period"
Carved and gilded wood, French work around 1680. Mercury mirror.During the reign of Louis XIV, cabinetmakers specializing in the manufacture of frames for mirrors or paintings made their works according to the drawings of architect-decorators appointed by the king. Thus, our model is reminiscent of the creations of Jean Bérain (1640 - 1711), Jules Hardouin-Mansard (1646-1708), or even Robert de Cotte (1656 - 1735). The purchaser can divert the frame from its current function and use it to underline a painting, the dimensions of the view are 67.5 x 50 cm.
