Eugène Jérôme Auguste Roedel (Paris, February 5, 1859 - April 13, 1900) was a French illustrator, poster designer, caricaturist, watercolourist and lithographer, who signed his works "Roedel". During the 1880s, he began to draw and frequent cabarets and balls, especially in the neighborhoods around the Butte Montmartre and Place Pigalle. On April 11, 1885, he was one of the first to represent La Goulue. He produced caricatures for newspapers such as Le Petit Illustré, the Almanach du Père Peinard or, later, Le Courrier français or L'Estampe moderne. He also illustrates piano scores. Roedel met Jules Chéret shortly before 1890 and began to produce posters for the Imprimerie Chaix, In 1895, he became the official poster designer of the Moulin Rouge, Damaged by the abuse of absinthe, Roedel died suddenly on April 13, 1900 in the 9th arrondissement of Paris: he is 41 years old.
