Marked on the base "Villoroy & Boch" and signed and dated "Wagmüller 1871".
From 1879, Villeroy & Boch created a workshop in Merzich for the manufacture of monumental figures in terracotta and sandstone.
This sculpture is based on the original marble or bronze model of the famous contemporary artist and sculptor Michael Wagmüller (1839 - 1881) who also worked in England , notably in London.
This particular sculpture was exhibited at the Universal Exhibition in Vienna ( Austria ) in 1873.
