A ceremonial shield in the form of a domed shield in cast iron modelled on that of Henri II of France. Its decoration in relief depicts the victory of Hannibal and the Carthaginians over the Romans at Cannae in 216 BC.
The rim is decorated with a ribbon band, pearl stripes, medallion friezes, trophies of arms and foliage. In the upper centre, the head of the goddess Diana, on the lower part, a man's head.
