"Duke Of Wellington Equestrian Statue"
Equestrian statue of the Duke of WELLINGTON (1769-1852). Sculpted bronze with dark brown patina. The statue is represented on a terrace annotated on the edge "melted by Morel & cie London". It is signed CM (Carlo MAROCHETTI 1805-1867). H: 44 cm L: 33 cm W: 12 cm Period 19th Duke of WELLINGTON General during the campaigns of the Napoleonic wars, promoted Marshal to victory against the French during the battle of Victoria 1813. He commands the allied armies and defeats Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815. Twice Prime Minister and leading figure in the House of Lords until his retirement. Carlo MAROCHETTI Born in Turin, grew up in Paris and studied in Rome. He remained in France until 1848 and then moved to London. Productive artist who created wonderful equestrian statues. This sculpture represents one of 7 equestrian statues exhibited in Glasgow in the United Kingdom.
