"Kurukulla, Gilded Bronze, Nepal"
Kurukulla is represented here in its 4-armed form, also called Oddiyana Kurukulla. Its general appearance, semi-irritated, is similar to that of Vajravarahi: fierce expression of the face, 3 eyes, dance posture, etc…, however, its attributes composed of flowers, make it easy to identify it. She is regarded as a semi-angry manifestation of Tara, taking her name from the mountain where she resides in Indian Gujarat. She belongs to the family of Buddha Amithaba. She is invoked during the construction of a monastery, or, more generally, at the beginning of a project in order to subjugate the negative forces which could harm what is being undertaken. As a result, she often acts as the goddess of love, her arrow and bow are reminiscent of Cupid. Among his attributes, therefore, we find the bow and arrow of flowers, the lotus rope in his upper right hand. This gilt bronze statue is very finely executed down to the smallest detail as can be seen in the photos. The bow, the lotus rope, the flame glory and the statue itself are removable. Nepal, early 20th century, purchased locally in the 1970s.
