"Beautiful Inkstand "le Travail" - Charles-auguste Lebourg"
Beautiful Inkwell "Le Travail" signed Charles-Auguste Lebourg
In grey granite and bronze with a shaded brown patina.
France, Paris, circa 1890

Signature of the sculptor: "Le Bourg" on the back with the inscription "acquis par la ville de Paris" ("acquired by the City of Paris") underneath. On the front, the title of the sculpture in a cartouche "Le Travail" ("The Work").  
Casted during the artist's lifetime.

Excellent condition, consistent with age and use (see photographs)

Charles-Auguste Lebourg, French artist (1829-1906)
The Work is also called The Blacksmith
His best known work is the creation of the Wallace fountain caryatids, five of which are in Nantes, a hundred in Paris and many more scattered around the world.
