ZOUAVE CARVED WOOD XIXth. Large, very spectacular 19th century woodblock depicting an Officer of the Zouave...... It may be an important matrix for printing fabrics in the style of D'Epinal or Pellerin imagery. It can also be a mold for plaster bas-reliefs. A thin strip of metal surrounds the character, protruding one or two centimeters. A removable decorative cord was positioned around the wood later. The polychromy of the soldier is old with a superb patina. Dimensions of the wood alone: 122.5 cm x 30.3 cm x 3.5 cm. Spectacular, very decorative and in very good condition.
