Laure Hayman was born in Valparaiso in Chile in 1851. She descends from the painter Francis Hayman who was the master of Thomas Gainsborough She settled in Paris and she had a very rich life, being a demi-mondaine (she knows the Duke intimately d'Orléans, the King of Greece as well as the father of Marcel Proust, the Duc d'Estrees, Bischoffheim...) As a sculptress she was active from 1905 to 1925 (the sculpture presented here is dated 1925 to side of the signature on the base) She exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1905 and then at the Georges Petit gallery in 1913 Retrospectives: memory of Laure Hayman, literary hotel Swann Paris 2020 Marcel Proust, a Parisian novel, Carnavalet museum, Paris 2022 Death in Paris in 1940
