Object description :

"15th Cty Wooden Saint ? Carved Wood Statue, A "miraculous Survivor"!"
Haute Epoque

Large wooden carved (oak)statue depicting a bearded Saint (It could be St Peter holding a key, but hands missed, and also removed the attributes allowing its identification...)

Sizes 62cm height * 25cm width * 20cm depth

Condition: HOULA, 1 very long file !!!

The saint not only lost his hands, and therefore its attributes (Bible, key,...?) but not only...
Former residence for a xylophagous insects colony, the statue has been treated and stabilized and does not present more risk there.
The wormholes have largely attacked sides and the base of the statue- the statue no longer stands up if it is not positioned on its back.
An iron hook on the back, original for my mind, also allows it to be hung on a wall.
But its misfortunes obviously don't stop there, like many other sculptures from the same period: the statue was more victim of a major fire, as evidenced by the traces of black on the back or on the sides. The wood is even transformed in places into a charcoal surface, but which remains hard and solid.
At the end, it s here a real MIRACLE allowing us to still enjoy the unbeliveable charm of this primitive and popular sculpture, with its incredible patina. We will therefore call it, if you allow me, "the Miracle Survivor "... Limit to convince the most extreme and convinced atheists and agnostics people...!
