Gaston Ploquin was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon, then of the painter and decorator Louis Bardey (1851-1915). He exhibited in Lyon from 1900 and participated in various Lyon fairs. In Lyon, and during his travels in Burgundy and on the Côte d'Azur, he made sketches and paintings of landscapes. Faithful to the traditional style taught at the academy, he painted landscapes, flowers, historical scenes and still lifes.
