"Genre Scene In Ancient Egypt - Eugenio De Giacomi 1888"
Oil on canvas depicting a genre scene in ancient Egypt. A wealthy merchant seems to charm a harp player, while a character accompanied by two Nubians observes the scene from a balcony in the background on the left. It seems to take place in a temple or a rich mansion. There are Hathoric pillars, a Sphynx, and a number of hieroglyphic inscriptions. Egyptomania, born after the expedition of Bonaparte, and transcribed in "The description of Egypt" of 1809, experienced an exceptional enthusiasm that even China and India did not arouse. Signed lower right De GIACOMI, dated 1888. Eugénio De Giacomi born in Modena in 1852, and died in 1917, was a student at the Fine Arts of this city (Atestina) directed by Adeodato Malatesta. Original canvas and frame, one piece on the back. Very nice decorative effect. 141x110
