Plowman and his horse, oil on canvas by Louis Audibert, French painter born in 1880 in Marseille and died in the same city in 1983.
Signed lower right.
Good condition.
Dimensions: 65 x 50cm.
Son and grandson of a soap maker from Marseille, Louis Audibert was educated at the Sacré-Coeur boarding school. He then entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. where he stayed from 1906 to 1912, and where he discovered the Impressionist painters. After the 1st World War, he became friends with Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan and worked with him in Cassis. He becomes Winston Churchill's teacher. He is linked to many artists like Albert Marquet, Moïse Kisling, Marcel Leprin etc. He made his first exhibition in 1920 and founded the Union of Plastic Arts in 1948.
