He enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid and met Vicente Palmaroli González, his teacher, whom he admired and considered his mentor. In 1875, aged only nineteen, Eduardo-Leon Garrido left his hometown to continue his studies in Paris thanks to a scholarship offered by the city of Madrid. Quickly, the talent of the young painter is identified by the famous art dealer Adolphe Goupil. Garrido worked for him for a few years, which enabled him to exhibit his paintings at the Salon des Artistes français. In 1888 he moved to La Varenne where he married one of his models: Léonie Beck. Eduardo-Leon Garrido mainly painted portraits like the Young Woman in a Flowered Hat and scenes in the style of the 18th century, this new trend may have been initiated by Edmond and Jules de Goncourt who wrote in 1881 L' 18th century art.
