Materials
The commode is made of ebony veneered with brass and tortoiseshell. The brass is cut into intricate patterns and then inlaid with the tortoiseshell. This technique, known as Boulle marquetry, was named after André-Charles Boulle, a French craftsman who perfected it in the 17th century.
Decoration
The commode is decorated with a variety of motifs, including foliage, scrolls, and geometric shapes. The brass is often gilded, which gives the commode a luxurious appearance.
Features
The commode has three drawers and a marble top. The drawers are flanked by pilasters and the top is surmounted by a pediment. The commode is supported by four cabriole legs that are footed with brass sabots.
