"Pair Of Sconces After "
Very rare and important pair of gilt bronze sconces, after a model by Jean-Charles Delafosse (1774/1792). Each wall lamp has a barrel formed by three arms in facing scrolling consoles, underlined with laurel falls, flanking a circular terrace with flared base decorated with vine leaves and adorned with a corolla of achantes leaves. The whole is punctuated by a pedestal vase surmounted by a basket of fruit and foliage. Very finely chiseled garlands of fruit and foliage descend on either side of the shaft to join the three molded console arms underlined with acanthus with finely chiseled flowers in the center. The pedestal bobèches with foliage decorated with oak leaves and grooves recalling the decor of the barrel. At the top of the barrel is a garland of interlacing underlined with laurel leaves, resting on a finely crumpled ribbon knot holding the three arms of light, ending on a console decorated with grooves and foliage. Chasing, perfection of execution, and exceptional dimensions. Original patina, gilded with matte gold and burnished gold. They have never been electrified, which is very rare. Dimensions...
