KATANA GUARD, called tsuba 
Japan, late Edo period (1603-1868) 
Shakudo and brass 
H. 7 ; L. 6,7 cm ; Thickness : 1,1 mm 

Tsuba mokko gata shakudo with a sandblasted background, the relief decoration of which is enhanced by brass on both sides: Komainu lions wander amidst lanterns with wide strings ending in pompons and scrolls of parchments.
