"d'Auvergne Said De Paris (martial, Prosecutor In Parliament) - Les Arrests d'Amours. 1731."
D'AUVERGNE SAID DE PARIS (Martial, prosecutor in parliament) - The Arrests of Love with L'Amant rendered Cordelier, at the Observance d'Amours. Accompanied by Legal Comments, & Joyful by Benoit de Court, Jurisconsult. Amsterdam, Chez Francis Changuion, 1731; in-12, XLVIII-634 pp., contemporary full calfskin binding, spine decorated with 5 bands, title label in red morocco, fillets on the covers, edges painted red. Curious work where the author speaks of love using a combination of form and language combining literature and law while making fun of the absurdities of gallantry as well as the French legal system. This text was published for the first time around 1460. Moreover, the work remained popular until the 18th century and was imitated by La Fontaine. Beautiful condition.
