French or English, early 19th century.
Ring size W UK / 11 US.
The ring is set with a glazed compartment concealing a compass. The bezel of the compass is surrounded by a laurel border and the shoulders of the ring are decorated with roses.
The reverse of the bezel bears the French inscription 'qu'elle dirige vos pensées' which translates as ‘it directs your thoughts'.
The ring appears to be French but with an absence of a poinçon it is likely that it could be English, the use of French for the inscription adds to the romantic nature of the hidden message.
