Large bust of the German novelist, playwright, poet, art theorist and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). Portrait made around 1820 by the German sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch (1777-1857).A bronze version of this bust is presented at the Musée de la Vie Romantique in Paris as well as a marble version at the Friedrichwerdersche Kirche, a church transformed into a museum, in Berlin.
Plaster patinated in imitation of bronze.
Inscription on the back "Pellegrini"(?) "1820".
