"Rodolphe Caillaud Tuna Fishermen In Saint-jean-de-luz Oil On Panel Circa 1960"
Rodolphe Caillaux is a painter from Ile-de-France born in 1904 and died in 1989. He is associated with the school of Paris for his expressionist work which started in the 1930s in parallel with an activity of One Man Show . He took part in the Salons d'Automne and met many Parisian artists of the 1930s, such as Jean Hélion and Alexander Calder. His attachment to the Basque Country and Pau is one of the central dimensions of his work since he produced many works of landscapes and seascapes in these regions during his lifetime (where he stayed throughout his career). Here he depicts tuna fishermen in Saint-Jean de Luz, in his expressionist work of matter, with a knife on panel. We can see in the background the house of the Infanta where the Infanta of Spain Maria Theresa had been welcomed before her marriage to Louis XIV. The work is framed in a modern and tasteful American baguette, it is in good condition.
