"Melon Shaped Bronze Teapot. Ancient China"
The teapot is cast in bronze. The body has the shape of a melon and the spout that of a stylized bird. The handle supports have a typical shape for this period. The handle, which has now disappeared, must have been made of perishable materials, probably braided bamboo fibre. It is exceedingly rare to find a Chinese bronze teapot from this period. It is functional and perfectly pours the tea without uncontrolled drips. Good condition, however the cover is chiped see photo, no restoration. Original antique patina. It seems to us that it is a production of the Tang period of the 8th-9th century, but perhaps earlier. 225x130mm
