Alberto Viani (1906 - 1989), Italian painter and sculptor, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, under the influence of Arturo Martini, whose assistant he became.
Prize for young sculpture in 1948 at the Venice Biennale.
His caryatid of 1952 is mentioned in the Benezit dictionnary of paintors :
"Viani evolved gradually to abstraction, but to an abstraction akin to that of Jean Arp, based on obvious correspondences with the sensation, even the sensuality of human reality, such as it is also clearly acknowledged in titles such as Cariatide 1952, Abstract Nude from 1949-1953 or Seated Nude from 1957 "
