"Large Bressan Dresser In Burl Ash, Cherry And Walnut"
Rare in this quality of execution, this dresser opens, in the lower part, with three doors with massive burl ash panels surrounded by deep moldings in cherry wood with burl reserves on the four sides; between the doors, two large fixed frames are carved with lianas, stylized flowers and leaves. Traverse and drawers with a bramble bottom are molded and sculpted. The central drawer closes with a lock, the two sides open with falling brass handles. The legs are arched and the lower crosspiece is turbulent and sculpted with a large sheet of water with bramble reserves on either side. The upper part consists of the dresser with on either side a small molded door with a bramble background decorated with small brass rosettes (one missing) and is surmounted by a large molded crosspiece and carved in its center with a bramble background and a straight cornice (perhaps modified). The double horizontal bars of the shelving are reinforced by squares adorned with bramble medallions, two of which are engraved with the date 1840. The two lower ones enclose a small glass box on the front that can accommodate a small alarm clock. Large niche below. One might think that the date of 1840 in two medallions is much later than the realization of this piece of furniture which seems rather to date from the second part of the 18th century, of which it has retained all the characteristics both in the finesse of execution, the quality of the choice of wood species only in assemblies or ironwork. Slot at the back of the tray, door locks replaced by old ratchet closures easier to use
