Beautiful work finely produced by the painter Victor de Grailly which represents an animated view of cows and fishermen in Holland.
One can distinguish in the foreground, a lively riverside of fishermen in their boats as well as a herd of cows on the bank. The second plan, offers us a view of a forest revealing the church of a village.
Landscape painter, Victor de Grailly was a pupil of the painter Jean Victor Bertin. Recognized as an excellent artist from the independent school, he trained by studying the works of Dutch painters. He performs copies of Salomon Van Ruysdäel and Meindert Hobbema who show a most conscientious talent. Our work is part of this line inspired by Dutch painters.
Victor de Grailly also produced, from engravings by William Henry Bartlett, American views intended for American buyers. He exhibited at the Salon from 1833 and won medals in 1840 and 1844.
These works are present in many French and foreign museums, including many in the United States. Some old small restorations, without impact and visible on the back, are to be noted.
Dimensions: 41.5 x 54 cm without frame and 54.5 x 67.5 cm with its original gilded wooden frame.
