"Secretary Happiness Of The Day Louis XVI"
Charming piece of furniture, this secretary, or happiness of the day, from the Louis XVIII period is stamped J.Caumont (1736-1800) master cabinetmaker. Inlaid with rosewood, satin and maple, it presents in the center of the flap a small bouquet of flowers composed in a medallion. The parts in reserve are surrounded by a net alternating geometric patterns in contrasting tones. The flap reveals a small arrangement of 3 drawers, one of these drawers is subdivided into 4 compartments, 3 of which were reserved for writing sets, inkwell, powder, etc., the bottles are missing. A large belt drawer completes the functionality of small-sized furniture, the upper part is surrounded on three sides by an openwork bronze gallery. On the back the stamp is on one of the uprights next to the JME brand. The seat was re-sheathed a few years ago in red leather, decorated with small irons.
