Stamped terra cotta medallion depicting the profile of Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) on the left. The circumference of the medallion bears the inscription: "B.FRANKLIN. . AMERICAN". The work is signed and dated under the bust "NINI F 1777", and also bears a coat of arms. 

Jean-Baptiste Nini, born in Urbino in 1717 and died in 1786 in Chaumont-sur-Loire, was an eminent sculptor and engraver of the 18th century, having realized numerous medallions in terra cotta representing important personalities of his time.
