This work signed G. Gir Paris 1775 is attributed to Fernando Ciancianaini (1889 - 1954) known as Fernand Cian.
In very good condition, the patina is very beautiful, only a few tiny bursts are to be seen.
The work is perfectly highlighted on its marble base.
A sculptor of naturalized French Italian origin, Fernand Cian specialized in busts of children made in the style of the eighteenth century, but he also made some busts of musicians of the nineteenth century.
He exhibited eleven times at the Paris Salon, under his original name Ciancianaini between 1907 and 1914, then as Cian until 1928, obtaining an honourable mention in 1921.
The dates, when present, always correspond to the eighteenth century.
The works are of very good quality, sometimes able to maintain a real illusion as to their seniority and have nothing pastiches.
There are also two busts of Cian in the collections of the Louvre (bust of the Duke of Lesdiguières as a child) and the National Gallery of Washington.
This object comes from a bourgeois house in Florence inhabited by a family of French origin.
