"Ghoum Carpet Made In Iranian Silk, Signed, Year 1950."
Ghoum rugs designed in silk with a medallion with floral decoration, signed on the top, dating from the Shah period, around 1950. The silk threads used in these rugs are extremely fine, which allows the weavers to use a weaving technique which will give rugs a high knotting density, precision in detail as well as intricate designs. Ghoum rugs are among the most prized examples of Persian craftsmanship worldwide. They are either made entirely of natural silk pile and warp (sometimes with double silk pile) or kork wool pile, sometimes embellished with very intricate silk detailing.
