Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled in the great southwest throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the style of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of the picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to raise with a vital contrast.
From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié criss-crossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It was in the commune of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne that he would spend a large part of his time, and where he married for a second time in 1894. Several hundred works have been created on the banks of this river, the majority of which are not located today by their owners.
This beautiful format dated 1908 was made on the left bank of the Vézère, which however we do not distinguish in the composition. The turbulent Beune which flows before our eyes passes under the small bridge which is the last before this stream flows into the river fifty meters downstream. On the left in the background of the composition, the high limestone cliffs overlooking the waters of the large river stand out perfectly.
Do not hesitate to ask us for the iconography of the other paintings representing this place.
